VIDEO: Watch the Detroit Lions’ watch party for Melissa Gonzalez’s Olympic run

Just an amazing moment for Gonzalez, Blough and the Lions team.

On Friday night, runner Melissa Gonzalez lined up in the hopes to keep her Olympic dreams in Tokyo live. Thousands of miles away her husband, Detroit Lions quarterback David Blough, was in a team meeting room watching her getting ready to compete for the first 400-meter hurdles heat of the night.

Unbeknownst to him, the entire Lions coaching staff was there behind him to watch and support him and his wife.

“Man, it was incredible,” Blough said on Saturday. “Coach (Dan) Campbell and his staff have made this more special than it already was. I was sitting there with Tim (Boyle) and Jared (Goff) and a couple of the other guys and had no idea the whole staff was out there.”

Then Gonzalez took the stage. In the last leg of the race, she made her move. She eventually pulled ahead of all but one racer, finishing with a personal best of 55.37—a Colombian record, to boot. By placing second in her heat, she has now qualified for the semifinals, to be raced on Monday morning at 7:35 a.m. ET.

Thankfully, the cameras were rolling as Blough and the rest of the Lions team went crazy during the race. Check it out:

“That’s my raw emotion,” Blough said. “Whether it’s the first round of the Olympics or if she’s running at Tyler Community College in Texas.

“I turn around and I see (the coaching staff). It just made us feel loved. It made me feel loved. Sending the video I had to Melissa made her emotional and cry. That’s what it’s all about. This is a family, that’s what we’re trying to build and it was very special.”

Just an awesome moment to behold.
