Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova lived up to their status of top seeds as they defeated Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic and Viktorija Golubic 7-5 6-1 in the women’s doubles gold medal match at the Tokyo Olympics.

Women’s singles gold medalist Bencic was hoping to take home two gold medals, but the reigning Roland Garros champions Krejcikova and Siniakova won nine of the last ten games in Sunday’s final to earn the Czech Republic its first women’s doubles Olympic gold in tennis.

These are the second Olympics in a row with Swiss women’s doubles silver medalists, following Timea Bacsinszky and Martina Hingis at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Bronze medalists in Tokyo are Laura Pigossi and Luisa Stefani of Brazil.

In mixed doubles, Russia’s Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Andrey Rublev saved a match point in the match tiebreak to defeat compatriots Aslan Karatsev and Elena Vesnina 6-3 6-7(5) [13-11]. This was the first time that Pavlyuchenkova and Rublev were playing together. They also saved one match point in the semifinals against Australia’s Ashleigh Barty and John Peers, eventual bronze medalists.
