Adidas is ready for the 2021 US Open. Earth tones and herringbone-inspired prints define the latest tennis dresses, tanks and skorts created for the Grand Slam in New York City.

The first promo photos show Maria Sakkari of Greece in the peach version of the Adidas NY Y-Back Tank (the color is officially called ambient blush) and the olive-toned Adidas NY Print Skirt (the color is technically called orbit green). Both pieces, just like the rest of the collection, are made with recycled ocean plastic and employ advanced technologies that keep players cool and dry.

The Adidas NY Print Dress is available in sonic aqua and orbit green. The garment is a complete package with a built-in bra and coordinating shortie.

Adidas has used this type of Y-back straps in tanks and dresses for a long time now, as far as I can recall since the 2020 Australian Open. What makes this latest Y-back strap style unique is a dagger-shaped tip that looks like it’s piercing the tank along the spine.

The Adidas NY Match Tank exists in colors carbon and wonder white. This full-coverage top with ribbed neckband has an all-over herringbone-inspired pattern.

The above Adidas NY Y-Back Tank and Adidas NY Print Skirt are the same designs as the ones worn by Sakkari in the photoshoot, just in different colors. The engineered herringbone pattern of the tank matches that of the exposed elastic waistband of the skirt.

The new collection also offers this casual Adidas NY Boroughs Tank, which lists parts of New York City on the front and has “Adidas Tennis New York” written on the back. There is also the simple Adidas NY Tennis T-Shirt which features “15, 30, 40, ad, love” written alongside the company logo on the front.

The all-black Adidas NY Woven Jacket, wristbands, and head accessories round out the collection. Moreover, Adidas has recently brought back the favorite Barricade tennis shoe model.

  1. Adidas keeps making the exact same dress, but in different colors, ever since 2020 LOL. (with the Y back).

They used to have the best designs… not sure what happened. (such as the Australian Open 2017 dress is one of my all time favorites. I also like the 2014 Adidas McCartney Barricade NY Dress in the nude color, and also the Adidas Stella Mccartney 2015 roland garros dress with the flora embroidery at the hem. I also like the 2019 Australian open Parley dress , but didn’t buy it at the time, and now have been looking for it online for years ).

Hope they finally vary it up soon in the future. The only time I bought the Y back dresses was in 2020 when I was desperate during COVID lockdown, and then the red Dope Dye one, b/c it matched with the men’s red shirt (Stefanos Tsitsipas was wearing it and i thought it looked nice), and I am always on the lookout for team outfits for my husband, and the designs don’t always have ones that match well for women and men.

The herringbone pattern is interesting … but really wish they varied up the design.
Lately, I’ve liked the Nike dress designs so much more than the Adidas ones, whereas in the past, I favored the Adidas ones.

  2. I’m getting bored with the Y back design from Adidas, it does feel recycled since early ’20.
But the color options are still acceptable.

Plus I really hate the new way tennis warehouse displaying the clothes, the way TW shows the model wearing the clothes as main picture, I’m sorry but most of those models have nice body but doesn’t have the athletic body shape to compliment the sports brand apparel.
Am I the only who felt like this?

  3. Ian, I don’t have a problem with the way TW is presenting clothes nowadays. I like it. When it comes to models for sportswear, for some reason, companies tend to pick skinny models over athletic women. Lacoste photoshoots first come to mind.
