NEW DELHI: Construction of 17 JNVs are stalled due to “non-receipt of land from concerned State Government,” the Centre informed the
Lok Sabha on Monday. This includes seven in Delhi, three in West Bengal and two in Jammu and Kashmir.
In a written response to a question on “whether the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas are not being constructed at some locations despite having been sanctioned?” Union education minister
Dharmendra Pradhan told the Parliament that “The Navodaya Vidyalaya Scheme envisages opening of one
Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (
JNV) in each district of the country.
As on date, 661 JNVs have been sanctioned, out of which 580 JNVs are functional from the permanent campus, construction work is in progress at different stages in 64 JNVs…”
Sharing a list of the JNVs whose construction could not be initiated, the minister said: “and 17 JNVs could not be constructed due to non-receipt of land from concerned State Government.”
Apart from Delhi and West Bengal, they also include Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand.
