FREMONT — A 21-year-old Union City man has been arrested in the shooting of another man last week. police said Monday.
The arrest occurred within 29 hours of the shooting, which happened about 2:06 p.m. Wednesday on Locke Court. The victim suffered non-life threatening wounds.
Police have not yet released a motive for the shooting or said if the victim and suspect knew each other.
According to a Fremont police news release, detectives with the department’s Gun violence Reduction Team identified the suspect shortly after the shooting. About 7 p.m. Thursday he was spotted in the passenger seat of a Jeep that fled when officers tried to stop it.
A chase ensued to the area of the southbound I-880 offramp and Jackson Street in Hayward where a police vehicle used a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) to stop the Jeep.
Both the shooting suspect and the Jeep driver, a 20-year-old Union City man were arrested.
During a search of the vehicle a gun believed used in the July 28 shooting was recovered, police said.
The 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and carrying a loaded firearm with intent to commit a felony. He is being held without bail at Santa Rita Jail.
The driver was booked and released on a notice to appear on violations of carrying a loaded firearm and evading a police officer.
