Crews battled a vegetation fire in Sonoma County that tore through about 40 acres within an hour Wednesday afternoon, Cal Fire said.
The blaze broke out just before 2:30 p.m. southeast of Sonoma at Napa Road and Fremont Drive, near the community of Schellville, the Cal Fire Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit said in a social media post.
Photos captured by a PG&E camera showed smoke rising up behind a ridge in the hilly region. Just an hour later, the fire had burned 40 acres and was 0% contained, the fire service said.
No evacuations had been issued as of about 3:30 p.m., according to the Napa County Sheriff’s Office, but officials asked travelers to stay out of the area.
As of 7 p.m., the fire covered 116 acres and was 70% contained, Cal Fire said.
